From Oculus for Business to Quest for Business: what do these changes mean for our customers?

Facebook (aka Meta, its new umbrella name) held its annual Facebook developer conference for all things with Virtual Reality yesterday. A number of important plans have emerged here, which have consequences for customers of Oculus for Business. We list the most important changes below:

The most important changes for customers who want to make another purchase:

  • You can no longer purchase OFB after 31-12-2021.
  • Betas will be available in 2022, but it may not be possible to purchase new Quest headsets with MDM, Kiosk mode etc. If you want to use the software functionalities of OFB, it is important to pass on your order before 31-12-2021, because after this no standard solution will be available until 2023.
  • You can convert the current OFB headsets to the Consumers version at any time and start using Quest for Business when this service becomes available.
  • The OFB account will no longer be renewed, you do not have to renew for €180 p/y after your software subscription has expired, but you can still use the software for an extra year free of charge with the usual support and guarantees.

What is Quest for Business?

Actually it is the Oculus Quest Consumers version with additional features:

  • Log in with a work account instead of a personal Facebook account
  • Improved IT management: Account management, IDP and SSO integration, and third-party MDM
  • Data security through third-party MDM: Microsoft Intune, VMware Workspace ONE, and Ivanti UEM (formerly MobileIron).
  • When will the new Quest for Business solution be available?

    • Closed beta release at the end of 2021
    • Open beta releases in 2022
    • Generally available in 2023

What will the new solution cost?

There is still a lot of thought being given to Meta, but it is expected that the Consumers hardware can be supplemented with with an extra subscription to unlock the extra software options.

What do the changes mean for current Oculus for Business users?

You can continue to use your Oculus for Business headsets without any changes to your experience. Version 29 will be the last Oculus for Business OS release. Oculus continues to provide enterprise level support and warranties for Oculus for Business pursuant to with the Enterprise Use Agreement. This includes premium Oculus for Business support, security and vulnerability patches, hardware warranties, and rapid replacement of headsets.

Oculus for Business will no longer provide renewable subscription periods for Enterprise Support on supported headsets. There is no change to the limited warranty. So, for example, if you purchase an Oculus for Business headset on December 31, 2021, you get a Limited Warranty of two years, commencing on the date you make available the Enterprise Software with the Device Manager mobile application (if applicable) or 90 days after the date of shipment of your Headset, depending on which comes first. Business software renewals are not required.

You can have OFB headsets converted to the Consumers version at any time and start using Quest for Business when this service becomes available. The OFB account will no longer be renewed, you do not have to renew for €180 p/y after your software subscription has expired, but you can still use the software for an extra year free of charge with with the usual support and guarantees.
