How do you hang the cables of your VR Headset?

This way you ensure that you neatly hide your VR cables

Most PC-controlled VR glasses are wired to a Computer. These glasses are directly connected with to the graphics card of the PC, so that you get the most power from the PC. But the disadvantage of cabling is that it often gets in the way. For example when you play a VR game in which you can move 360 degrees. By turning several circles, your Headset cable will get tangled. This is why it is important to with work with a VR cable management system. You can easily attach this to the ceiling and let the Headset cable run through it. So you can enjoy VR without the hassle of cables!

Step 1: Place your PC in a convenient place

The cable of a VR headset has a limited length (usually ± 5 meters). This length can be extended with some VR glasses, but in many cases this results in loss of quality. To get the most out of your VR cable, we recommend placing the Computer as close as possible (and preferably as high as possible) to the wall - for example on a desk against the wall. This way you avoid that the Headset cable first has to run to the wall, then go up, then go over the ceiling and finally come down at the Headset. By placing the PC as close and as high as possible against the wall, you already skip the first part (running the cable to the wall and up). This results in approximately 1 to 2 meters of "extra" cable, which you can use to hide the cable nicely.

Step 2: Hang the VR cable management stickers

The VR cable management systems consist of stickers, pulleys and hooks. Hang the stickers on the ceiling with a little bit in between (± 30 - 60 centimetres). Usually three stickers are enough, but for a greater distance you can use several.

Step 3: Attach the pulleys to the stickers

Now that the stickers are on the ceiling you can attach the pulleys to the stickers. The pulleys ensure that the Headset cable can move flexibly. These pulleys are similar with hangers to which you can attach a ski pass: you can pull it out and as soon as you let go the string snaps back. with a Headset cable this works the same. When you attach a cable to a pulley you can move in all directions. For example, when you dive down the cable moves with with you without any problems, and when you then jump up the pulley automatically pulls the cable back.

Step 4: Remove the Headset cable from your VR goggles and attach the cable to the pulleys

Now you are going to put the Headset cable through the pulleys. The easiest thing is to disconnect your Headset cable from the VR glasses, so that you can easily move through the room. When you have disconnected the cable, attach the cable to all cable management systems. Some systems consist of carabiner hooks, while other systems with have a click system (like this cable management system).

Step 5: Leave some space at the last pulley

A common mistake when hanging a VR cable management system is that there is equal tension on all pulleys. This ensures that you cannot move comfortably and you notice that the last cable on your Headset starts to "pull". In this video is well explained how you can prevent this.
