The Scariest VR Horror Games

Virtual Reality games are getting better and more realistic. Because of the hyper-realistic graphics VR is sometimes almost indistinguishable from the real thing. That realism of course provides the perfect basis for horror games! Because what could be scarier than being chased by horror clowns in a first-person VR environment...

Horror games have long been one of VR's most popular game genres. This is because a player experiences the game much more intensely than when you are behind your PC or Playstation, for example. With VR glasses you literally look through the eyes of the protagonist in the game, making it feel like you are in the (horror) story yourself.

Most VR horror games are relatively short with an average playing time of 2 to 3 hours, but guarantee the necessary scare and jump moments. In this list we will highlight our 5 favorite VR horror games for you.

The Exorcist: Legion VR (Oculus, Steam & PSVR)

We all know the movie classic 'The Exorcist'. Something about this theme creates a creepy atmosphere. The Exrocist: Legion is a VR game consisting of 5 episodes. In the game you take on the role of a detective. Armed with a cross and holy water, your job is to investigate some mysterious murders.

Although the gameplay is quite simple, The Exorcist: Legion still manages to create a very exciting atmosphere with some intense scares. In combination with the cool sound design (Tip: play this game with headphones!) The Exorcist: Legion is a very cool experience for the VR horror fanatics among us.

Narcosis (Oculus & Steam)

Narcosis is not the standard type of horror game. In Narcosis you play as a diver who explores deep underwater. Unlike other horror games, Narcosis contains virtually no jump scares. But what makes the game so creepy is the fact that you are completely isolated and alone in the dark underwater.

While the game is quite short, the story is solid and the gameplay astonishingly good. Narcosis is therefore a good VR game for anyone looking for an exciting VR game.

<2>Resident Evil VII (PSVR)

Resident Evil is the cult classic of horror games. Originally released for PC and console, Resident Evil 7 also brings the horror to VR. In RE7 you are a ghost hunter and you investigate a house that appears to be possessed. With a camera you capture everything, but there are a lot of surprises in the house waiting for you...

Resident Evil 7 is honestly one of the scariest games to play in VR. The scary atmosphere, the jump scares and the sound design will give you a really cool horror experience that will keep you awake for a few more nights.

Dreadhalls VR (Oculus, Steam)

In Dreadhalls VR you wake up in a dark dungeon. Your only task: find the exit. The only thing you have with you is an oil lamp that you always have to refill with new oil. But beware, because you are not alone in the dungeon...

Dreadhalls is a must-have for true horror fans. The isolating feeling of being alone, the dark corridors you slowly walk through and the sounds you hear around you make for an exciting and scary adventure that you can only experience with VR.
