In 2020 there are so many Virtual Reality glasses on the market that it may be difficult to choose glasses. In this blog, we therefore explain which VR glasses are currently available and what the advantages and disadvantages of these glasses are.

HTC VIVE Pro, HTC VIVE Cosmos & HTC VIVE Focus Plus

HTC VIVE Pro

The HTC VIVE Pro has been on the market since 2018, but it is still at the top of the Virtual reality landscape. Due to the high image resolution of 1440 x 1600 pixels per eye and the use of external sensors, the HTC VIVE Pro is still the number 1 choice for business and professional VR users. The HTC VIVE Pro distinguishes itself from other VR glasses by the possibility to use the Headset wirelessly (in combination with with the wireless bundle) and by the reliable tracking on large playing fields (max. 10 x 10 meters). De HTC VIVE Pro wordt op het moment with name gebruikt bij VR-arcades die gebruik maken van free-roaming.

The newer HTC VIVE Pro Eye uses a new eye-tracking technology, allowing the user's field of view to be rendered sharper and there is even the possibility to use the Headset hands-free. These glasses are with mainly used by professional VR users and developers, because not every standard VR game is compatible with with hands-free motion controls. HTC VIVE Focus (Plus)

The HTC VIVE Focus (Plus) is HTC's first stand-alone VR glasses. This Headset uses a built-in processor, so the Headset does not have to be connected to a Computer. That means the Headset doesn't need any cables at all, and can play VR apps and content completely on its own! The HTC VIVE Focus (and newer Focus Plus) are with names used by Vr developers. This has to do with with the fact that the VIVE Focus is supplied with with the so-called 'Vive Wave' platform. On this platform, developers can easily develop and play VR apps with de VIVE Focus.

HTC VIVE Cosmos (Elite and Play)

The HTC VIVE Cosmos is the latest VR Headset from HTC. Unlike the VIVE Pro and VIVE Pro Eye, these goggles use inside-out tracking. In this way of tracking, multiple cameras are built into the VR Headset. These cameras can determine the movements of the Controllers and the position of the Headset in a room, eliminating the need to hang or place external sensors. However, this way of tracking has a small drawback with; the tracking method appears to be less reliable than tracking with using external sensors. This makes the HTC VIVE Cosmos less suitable for using with several people in a large room, because the built-in cameras can lose their position and thus not track the Controllers properly . The HTC VIVE Cosmos, on the other hand, is the first VR Headset to use inside-out tracking in combination with with a wireless adapter. This makes the VIVE Cosmos the very first computer-controlled VR glasses that can be used completely wirelessly and without external sensors!

The HTC VIVE Cosmos Elite and VIVE Cosmos Play are the new additions to the current VIVE Cosmos line. with the VIVE Cosmos you use external base stations, such as with the HTC VIVE Pro, so that the tracking of the Headset and [ [MD5_108]] is more reliable. The VIVECosmos is a complete package that comes with with Vive Controllers and Vive Base Stations 1.0.
