HTC Unveils New Vive Flow Headset

After many rumors about a new Headset from HTC, there is finally a new pair of glasses on the way: the HTC Vive Flow. However, this is not too Headset that was expected. So what is it? You can read that in our blog.

HTC describes the new HTC Vive Flow as "immersive glasses, suitable for meditation and relaxation". This can be deduced directly from the design: the Vive Flow has the design of large sunglasses - much smaller than previously released VR headsets, such as the HTC VIVE Pro 2 and the VIVE Focus 3. No Controller with the HTC Vive Flow is included, because the Headset can be connected and fully controlled with an (Android) smartphone.

HTC Vive Flow Specifications

The Vive Flow are lightweight VR glasses. with weighing only 189 grams, the glasses are lighter than most smartphones. The Headset comes with two LCD screens with a 3.2K resolution and 72 Hz refresh rate. Its specifications are just below comparable Standalone VR glasses, such as the Oculus Quest 2 and HTC VIVE Focus 3. However, the Vive Flow focuses on a completely different market than these Standalone VR glasses (video and entertainment, instead of gaming).

The Vive Flow has a 100 degree field of view and can be put on like sunglasses with two hinges on the side. There are built-in speakers for spatial audio, which adds to the experience when you're watching a movie, for example.

What is the HTC Vive Flow used for?

One of the first questions that came to mind when we saw the glasses was "what is the HTC Vive Flow used for?". If you can't play with it, what's the point of VR glasses? Fortunately, HTC has a good answer to that: the Vive Flow can really be seen as a multimedia device on which you can watch videos. For example, when you're on an airplane, you can put on the VR headset and watch a (VR) movie.

"With the Vive Flow, HTC is taking technology in a new direction, focusing not on what we do, but how we feel," said CEO Cher Wang. “In recent years, our well-being has become more important, so it has never been more important to take time for ourselves to calm down. Vive Flow provides the perfect opportunity here to escape from our four walls and immerse ourselves in our ideal environment."

The HTC Vive Flow comes with with a standard USB connection for easy charging. You can therefore quickly charge it in most places. The battery lasts for about 5 hours (depending on what you with are doing with the glasses. HTC has also developed a nice tube to store the glasses, so that you can easily throw them in your bag to take them with you.

The (expected) price of the HTC Vive Flow is €569. It is not yet known when the product will be available in the Netherlands, but when the time comes, the Vive Flow can definitely be purchased from us!
